Led by drummer/arranger Chris Hills, the Players Association was an obscure late-'70s, early-'80s outfit that specialized in a jazz influenced style of Soul/Disco/Funk. The New York band never catered to jazz's hardcore, its main focus was disco funk with jazz overtones, although the Association occasionally detoured into instrumental jazz pop and quiet storm, they did top notch covers of some Soul hits. The Association never became well known, and different players guested on every album. Major jazz musicians appeared on Their albums, here are a few of the cream of the East/West coast that appeared on the 5 albums - Bob Berg, Bob Mover, Chris Hills, Danny Weiss, David Earle Johnson, David Sanborn, Herb Bushler, James Mtume, Joe Farrell, Jon Faddis, Karl Ratzer, Michael Brecker, Mike Mandel, Pat Rebillot, Ray Mantilla, Steve Khan, Tom Harrell, & Wilbur Bascomb. Their recordings received very little radio airplay however, they did enjoy an underground following among Danceclubs especially in the UK & EU. The Players Association signed with Vanguard in 1977, and the band recorded five albums before calling it quits in 1981.This was their debut album.
