I missed out on the CD release back in 2012 so i forked out for the vinyl which made a pleasant change!..I wanted to relive the sound of 1973 when philly ruled the waves!...Philadelphia International Records (P.I.R) was the most influential modern black music company of the 1970s. Golden Gate Groove: The Sound Of Philadelphia Live 1973 documents the first, and only, time that the stars of Philadelphia International Records ever played in concert with the label’s fabled house band, known as MFSB. The concert took place in San Francisco during the annual CBS Records convention at the Fairmont Hotel in September 1973. The power and drama of the performances by The O'Jays ("Love Train"), Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes ("If You Don’t Know Me By Now"), The Three Degrees ("Dirty Ol Man"), Billy Paul ("Me And Mrs. Jones") and MFSB inspired and motivated the CBS staff to launch the juggernaut that would become the Sound of Philadelphia affectionately known as T.S.O.P....They proved they could take their great sound out into the world live!
