This album should go down in history as one of the most important compilations ever released in the UK. Originally put together in 1974 by Charlie Gillett for his Oval Records label. Ace reissued this best selling album (together with some newly added tracks) featuring the best music from South Louisiana. It contains an endless zig-zag from the familiar to the surprising and back. Although many of the album's tracks are cover versions, its classic status results from recordings that don't follow expectations. Loosely described as a Cajun compilation, the discerning listener will also detect some Rhythm & Blues, Two-Steps and Waltzes all of which is dominated by the accordion! This makes this the ideal compilation and forms a perfect introduction to the delight that is Cajun Classic Recordings From The Louisiana Bayous indeed! Almost all of the tracks were licensed from the Jin and Swallow Records, independent labels based in Ville Platte, Louisiana, owned by Floyd Soileau. At the time, there had never been an album released in the UK which combined French language Cajun music (featuring fiddles and accordions) with South Louisiana pop (sung in English and featuring saxophones, piano and electric guitar). In much the same way that the soundtrack album of "The Harder They Come" introduced a new audience to reggae, Another Saturday Night opened the door for UK listeners to the music of Louisiana. If your not familiar with the album or music your in for a treat!...though it is an acquired taste!
