The Persuaders - It's All About Love (1976) Calla (Demo Copy LP) + Scans - Rare Soul (FLAC 261MB)

Formed in 1969 in the Bronx,New York, USA, the Persuaders moved briefly to the top of the Soul Music world in the early 70s and created some incredibly soulful gems, some of which have been re-made and sampled as hits in multiple genres. The Persuaders were formed from the ashes of doo-wop groups The Internationals, and The Majestics, and the group's original lineup, led by gritty lead singer Douglas Scott, Jimmy Barnes, Charles Stodghill and Willie B. Holland signed with Atco Records in 1971. As you may have noticed there is a strong link to the Northern Scene by the names mentioned. Charles Stodghill had previously sung with the group The Topics on carnival. The musical force behind the group was pianist/songwriter Richard Poindexter (who had spent much of the late 60s writing for such artists as Linda Jones and The O'Jays). They came out of the box on fire and scored a huge hit that year with the Poindexter penned "Thin Line Between Love and Hate," a now-classic ballad of warning that described the  painful consequences to a man who took his woman for granted. Their debut album followed on & the band toured throughout the year in support of the album. Following the conclusion of the tour, Barnes parted ways with the group. Tragically, later in 1972, Stodghill died of an illness at Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx, soon after having narrowly escaped death during an argument in a bar where his former Topics bandmate Bobby Adams had died defending him. While the Persuaders never again had a large crossover hit, they recorded a number of additional 45,s over the next three years, including the top 10 "Love Gonna Pack Up" and the excellent mid-tempo "Some Guys Have All The Luck". This album was their 5th and last one with the original line up as all members have sadly passed on since. There are 2 groups currently gigging with that name in and around new york, "The Persuaders" & "The Persuaders Revue". I,ve said this so many time in the past but these guys were awesome and shouhld have been superstars, sadly not to be. I will post up the rest of their albums time permitting. This is one of my fave albums by them, not a dud track in sight, Due to the writers there,s a strong Philly feel to most tracks, their rare northern dancers included!..SUPERB!
