Marva Denise Hicks was born in 1956 in Petersburg, Virginia, & Passed in 2022 in New York. Marva`s early career was as a gospel singer in her home town Petersburg where she honed her craft. After taking a trip to New York, she was attracted to theatre and later took acting classes in Washington, D.C. From there she joined the group, the Eighties Ladies in 1981 for one album on Roy Ayers Uno Melodic label. She recorded several demos, after the band split, and recorded 'Looking Over My Shoulder' for Infinity Records in 1981. When the label folded she wound up singing in Lena Horne's Broadway show for nearly three years. During a London tour Hicks met Stevie Wonder who was blown away by her performance & voice. She began touring with him in the mid-'80's, and undertook background vocals on his LP 'Characters'. She signed with Polydor in the late '80's and released this her only album & 5 x 45,s. To say the album is polished & classy is an under statement, listen to the tasters. She sadly passed in 2022 at the age of 66 causes unknown. I,ve included a bonus track that was big in the soul clubs here in the UK in the 1970,s. She concentrated more on her award winning acting career which was a shame.
