Emotive deep soul from The Double Soul and Willie Cobbs, admonishing JB esque finger wagging from Doris Allen. There's plenty to enjoy on this round-up of 45,s from the Florida- based Minaret label. Founded by Herb Shucher in 1962 in Nashville, TN Shucher's partner, the producer Finley Duncan, purchased the label in 1965, and moved the operation to Valparaiso, Florida. Finley also founded the publishing company Chu-Fin Music, Inc. as well as Playground Studios, Valparaiso, Florida. Shelby S Singleton Jr.'s SSS International organization purchased the label in 1967. In 1968 the company's label design was updated to be 4-colored, in order to foil counterfeiters. With this amazing overview of Minaret Records' soul output, Sundazed corrects the commercial injustice befalling perhaps the greatest little lost southern record label. Sundazed mixed Deep Soul collector faves from Johnny Dynamite, Genie Brooks and Doris Allen with lesser-heard gems from the likes of Leroy Lloyd and the Dukes (who shared personnel with James Brown), The Double Soul, and Candy & Billy. The latter, for years rumored as early Candi Staton, has since been fessed-up in interview by the soul queen herself. Tremendous in-house songwriting and a fabulously fun history of the Florida-based label make this a must for fans of pure, undiluted southern soul music...The next post includes many tracks not included on here, A DOUBLE CD.
