The Montclairs - Dreaming Out Of Season (1972)Paula-Remastered(2006)P-Vine(FLAC)+++Bonus Tracks(MP3)

One of the Greatest Soul Groups to have ever Recorded...that,s how highly i rate these guys. They all came from East St. Louis,(490 miles SW of Chicago)Illinois. They comprised of lead Phil Perry, David Frye, George McLellan, Kevin Sanlin and Clifford “Scotty” Williams. The Montclairs were consistent at the time when falsetto lead and sweet-sound vocals were fashionable. The group recorded their first single in ‘Her You Don’t Fight It’ 1969 on Arch(St. Louis area only), and the following year began recording for Bandleader/producer/Artist Oliver Sain at his Archway Studio at 4521 Natural Bridge Avenue in the Penrose Park neighborhood in St. Louis. A legendary R&B producer and performer, Sain opened the studio in 1965 and recorded a slew of local, regional, and national acts including the Montclairs, Zella Jackson Price, and Ike and Tina Turner. Currently vacant, the building is a tangible piece of St. Louis’ diverse musical history and a monument to the legacy of Sain’s impact on the city’s artistic community. Sain arranged for the group to be signed with Paula Records, based in Shreveport, Louisiana. Their outstanding hits for the label were “Dreamin’ Out Of Season” (number 34 R&B) from 1972, and “Make Up For Lost Time” (number 46 R&B) from 1974. Their last chart record was “Baby You Know (I’m Gonna Miss You)” from 1974. Their only album, ‘Dreamin’ Out Of Season’, was released in 1972, with the track ‘Prelude To A Heartbreak’ (number 70 R & B) b/w ‘I Need You More Than Ever’ released as a single the following year. They also recorded other sides for the Vanessa, Premium and United International imprints. In 1974, they lost Clifford Williams to the U.S. military and the group continued as a quartet. After the Montclairs left Paula in 1975 they disbanded.Perry later worked as a session vocalist and established himself as a popular smooth jazz artist. In 1979, Phil Perry moved to Los Angeles, hooking up with producer Chuck Jackson who signed the singer to Capitol, along with Kevin Sanlin of The Montclairs, to form the duo Perry & Sanlin. Their they recorded 2 albums. They continued as songwriters and freelance producers. Perry issued his own debut LP, ‘The Heart Of The Man’, for Capitol in 1991 and has continued to release 11 more solo albums up to "Breathless" his last in 2017. I didnt know whether to post the original album or the CD,so i opted for the CD as 2 tracks on the LP were extended cuts on the CD that were shelved at the time of recording.Northern fans are in for a treat as every classic is included! On a strange note they apparently got their name from a Brand of US Cigarettes !?...A Truly Fantistic Album Of Dynamite Soul...along with the Bonus Tracks!
