John Blake - Quest (1992) Sunnyside - Smooth Jazz Fusion

John Edward Blake Jr. (Born 1947 – passed 2014) was an American jazz violinist from South Philadelphia.  He performed most prominently as a sideman in groups led by Grover Washington Jr. (in the late 1970s on most of his classic albums) and McCoy Tyner (in the early 1980s),as well as led his own groups. John Blake recorded this album with a cast of all fellow Philadelphian musicians except for Ben Riley, and it's an acoustic band. Grover Washington, Jr. joins in two selections, Coltrane's "Moment's Notice" and his own blues contribution to the session, "Val's Blues". He recorded a total of 7 albums most of which are very difficult to source.

Nice one, AMM. Blake is on one McCoy Tyner album that I'm aware of, Horizon, which also features the bassist on this Blake lp, Charles Fambrough. Looking forward to this!

Very nice review. Smooth taster. Reminds me a little of Noel Pointer's work on his 1977 release "Phantazia"...
