Saturday Documentary - Soul Deep - The History Of Soul Music - Parts 2 & 3 (2005)

My only criticism of this brilliant series is the episode featuring Berry Gordy and Detroit/Motown deals most of the time with The Supremes and hardly touches on the other artists which is very misleading for the viewer.Otherwise it is a great series. 2 episodes Today.

Many thanks to you and Oldsoulrebel for this. I visited the Motown museum in 2017 and it was pretty great walking around where some of the greatest music of that era was ever produced...

I like Part 2 for the 'other' artists giving their take on things - I've never really appreciated Sam Cookes 'smooth' soul and this program makes out that he bore 'Soul' after Part 1 declares Ray Charles as doing. It's good how they venture into Gospel to show the roots in more detail.

Part 3 being Motown in the 60's, is very biased in the story it tells, tending to over genralise the facts as can be found through various autobiographies on the subject.

But overall, it's a good 3 part Docu to let the 'youngsters' know more and hopefully want to delve deeper.

Thanks :)
