Bobby Love - Rare Herbs (2005) Funky Delicacies - Rare Funk/Soul/Jazz (FLAC)

I was playing this great slab of funky soul the other day when everything went tits up on pc..it cheered me up with bobby,s hard edged New Orleans funk with a mighty funky Flute thrown in courtesy of Carl Leblanc...long deleted album i thought you might enjoy...Bobby is New Orleans born and bred a long standing musician and entertainer (real name Bobby McLaughlin) who is related to Louis Armstrong through his mother Doris Armstrong . He is an exciting performer who still maintains that New Orleans flavor and just released a new album so still going strong. During the course of his career he has had the opportunity to be the Band Captain, Student Director, Drum Major, and a State Champion as each at his high school, Booker T. Washington, in New Orleans. He performed in the Grambling State University Band before becoming a member of the United States Air Force Band of the South at Keesler Air Force Base. He has performed before the New Orleans Symphony Orchestra and with The Music Factory, Oliver Cornin and the Rocketts; Disco Lady songster Johnnie Taylor, and on shows with The Emotions, Natalie Cole, Roy Ayers, The Gap Band, Tyrone Davis and on the Kool Jazz Festival tour. He has made many appearances at The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. He has been coast to coast, border to border and several foreign countries.I bet our very own Pmac knows him ! He has returned from Los Angeles, California to New Orleans, Louisiana where he suffered a serious accident in which he was thrown from a car. However he is now producing in the recording studios as previously stated and has returned to live performances. Bobby Love's "Rare Herbs" brings to light the career of yet another New Orleans musician whose local success should have been international. Keyboardist, flautist, arranger, bandleader. Bobby,s CD  cut a broad swath from the 60s through the 80s, from straight-up jazz to Rick James type electro-funk. The treasure trove here is a mid-to-late 70s bunch of recordings with his group the Uptown Rulers that offer the best, most precious examples of the New Orleans take on Bar-Kays style post dance.Judge for yourselves! Most of the album is unreleased as he only released one 45 and no albums which i find puzzling ? he was also a member of Bileo who recorded that great northern classic " you can win" on M.T.U.
