hanks to a huge Afro-American migration Detroit in the 50s was jumping with the blues - around the Hastings Street area there was a vibrant club scene. When rhythm and blues mutated into soul in the 60s, Berry Gordy's Motown juggernaut changed the local recording landscape utterly, but just below this surface there were a few enterprising record men who remained interested in the older music, and who integrated R & B with the younger gospel based singers to make hard edged soul. This CD features the very best of that type of Motor City magic as deep and as gritty as you will find anywhere. Mant rare tracks on here...Superb!
