The Ethics - The Best Of (2003) Jamie/Guyden - Rare Soul (FLAC 282 MB)

I reviewed this on the old blog in mp3 so ripped upgrade through a request. Formed in 1967 in Philadelphia the Ethics consisted of Ron Tyson, Joe Freeman, Carl Enlow, and Andrew Collins. They combined Motown styled songs with sweeping string and horn arrangements in a style of what would come to be known as the Philly sound. Led by Tyson's considerable songwriting skills and Eddie Kendricks like tenor, the group recorded for independent labels Wale, Kent, and Golden Fleece, turning out songs like "Standing in the Darkness" and "I Want My Baby Back" that certainly deserved a wider audience than they received. Working with Vince Montana's rhythms and Thom Bell's sophisticated horn and string arrangements, the Ethics were truthfully just a little ahead of their time. They split by the time the 1970s dawned, and they watched from the sidelines while newer soul groups like the O'Jays followed the same template to massive success. Tyson later joined the reconstituted Temptations put together by Otis Williams. In 1974 The Ethics Evolved In to Love Committee With Only Joe Freeman From The Ethics Remaining Adding Norman Frazier,Ronald Presson & Michael Bell replacing Larry Richardson. Their 2 Brilliant albums as Love Committee are also reviewed today. They produced some great Northern Dancers & Love Commitee also!...Some of the best Philly soul you will hear!!!

Thank you for the review on this fine group. Ron Tyson did a great job with this group and later with the Temps. Thank you AMM.

Brilliant, woefully underrated, balladeers and Northern Soul rockers. Early Philly soul and early Thom Bell. AMM, you're a south Philly dude.
