The Spencer Davis Group - Gimme Some Lovin' (2001) Sundazed - Dance/MOD/Blues (FLAC 189MB)

Stevie Winwood was always an avid record collector in his youth and when he joined the band they would trial out demo,s (45,s) to two clubs in particular to get feedback on forthcoming releases. The Flamingo in London & The Twisted Wheel in Manchester were chosen as they were in the very small minority of clubs that were playing R&B/Ska/ & the new "trend" at that time SOUL. Many of the tracks on here were first played in those clubs pre release to see reaction. Stevie went on to become a bit of a legend possessing that very bluesy soulful voice. The rest is history. Like the Stones their background was steeped in Blues music flowing into the UK along with these unknown Soul 45,s..Some purists on here will turn their noses up but guys like Winwood did a hell of a lot to push Black Music in the UK. I met him once and seemed a very nice down to earth guy who knew his Black Music inside out & a great Hammond Organ player to boot as well as a top vocalist. All tasters played out on the scene when in its infancy. Giants back in the day of the emerging MOD movement, after all these years i still love stevie,s unique voice.
