Al Green - Listen The Rarities (2000) Hi Records - Rare Soul (FLAC 448MB)

Many rare tracks some not on his 45,s or albums, except the album "Love Ritual" is contained herein its entirety and that one is very rare to get hold of and expensive. I was going to post that up on request but this gives that album and extra tracks to enjoy. One of the legends of soul music need no introduction fro me. A total of 33 studio albums & 150 plus 45,s recorded aint to bad for a poor boy from Arkansas who popped into the world in 1946, & we are all the better for it. Albert Leornes Greene was born to sharecroppers in Forrest City Arkansas and the sixth of ten kids. While still a teenager, Al was kicked out of the family home after his devoutly religious father caught him listening to Jackie Wilson. He moved to Grand Rapids near Detroit... He then lived with a prostitute, began hustling allegedly, and indulged in recreational drugs. He listed to Mahalia Jackson, all the great gospel singers. But the most important music to him back in those days was those hip shakin' boys, Wilson Pickett and Elvis Presley. Curtis Rodgers and Palmer James, formed an independent label called Hot Line Music Journal. In 1968, having changed their name to Al Greene & the Soul Mates, they recorded the song "Back Up Train", releasing it on Hot Line Music. The song was a hit on the R&B charts and peaked at No. 46 in the Top 100. However, the group's subsequent follow-ups failed to chart, as did their debut album "Back Up Train". While performing with the Soul Mates, Green came into contact with Memphis record producer Willie Mitchell, who hired him in 1969 to be a vocalist for a Texas show with Mitchell's band. Following the performance, Mitchell asked Green to sign with his Hi Records label. The rest is now history... and he will go down as one of the greatest voices ever to grace Soul music.
