Sharon Jones & The Dap-kings - Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Rendition Was In) (2021) Daptone - Soul/Funk (FLAC 273MB)

Sharon was a real gospel influenced soul/funk singer, born 1956 in Georgia & sadly passed 2016. She was the lead singer of Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, a soul and funk revivalist band based in Brooklyn, New York. She was raised in North Augusta, South Carolina, moved to Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, New York, in 1960. Began performing in 1970s. Also worked as prison guard at Rikers Island, New York, in the late 1980s, and then as an armed security guard for Wells Fargo. Discovered by Gabriel Roth at a 1996 session backing the soul singer Lee Fields. And began recording with Roth for Pure Records, Desco Records, and then Daptone Records. Her debut album was 2002's Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings - "Dap-Dippin' With" (posted to old blog) which was Daptone's first album release. In 2013, she was diagnosed with stage 2 pancreatic cancer. Returned to performing in 2014. The cancer returned & she passed. She recorded 9 studio albums & every one is superb!..This was her last album recorded. The first taster was originally done by Detroit Queen Bettye Lavette on Karen in 1968, but the words have been changed.

I know it's a crime, but I've only heard her/their Christmas album so far. The version of White Christmas is so ridiculously gro-o-o-vy I'm most decidedly looking forward to listening to everything with her/their name on it.
Thanks, AMM!

Daptone was an interesting hub of great artists. I note that Neal Sugarman (part owner) is on this album. Really enjoyed The Sugarman Three, a combo of sax, B3 and drums. (Hint). You are making some people happy AMM. Thankyou
