Various Artists - West Coast Funk From The Vaults Of Canyon & Roker Records (2013) EMG (FLAC 256MB) - Rare Soul

labels based in Los Angeles, Canyon Records was the first label formed by Renny Roker and Wally Roker in March 1970. The name was changed 9 months later due to conflicting with a similar firm in Denver. Part of the Roker Record Group of labels, along with RRG Records, Roker Records, Soul Clock, and Stardom. A very rare version of Edwin Starr,s "War" by Frankie & The Spindles from 1970.

It's a good thing the cover says "West Coast Funk" in SUCH BIG LETTERS else one might think he's looking at a surf compilation. But I'd take one of those, too, as it happens.
Thanks, AMM!

Wally Roker released a number of classics. He was an aggressive promoter and at times a very difficult individual to get along with. I crossed paths with him a number times when he was freelance promoter.
Thanks for including this comp.

Roker also released a Jimmy Reed LP in 1971 for what it is worth. Like to hear what more they have to offer ... thank you.
