A few guys are having problems/issues etc took my time up and other stuff....so only the one post today.......The group originally came from & formed in Detroit in 1964. They were Joe Sladich - guitar, Bill Ellis - piano, Jim Bugnel - bass, and Jerry Plunk - drums. Most of these white guys friends were black and they loved R&B and the emerging `Soul` sound of the early 1960,s. At that time they were known as The Flaming Embers named after a local Detroit restaurant. They recorded for Fortune records owned by Jack & Devora Brown with a couple of 45,s that sank without trace. They moved on to Ed Wingate's Ric-Tic label in 1967, scoring an R&B hit written by George Clinton, "Hey Mama Whatcha Got Good For Daddy." plus 5 other 45,s. The Northern Scene soon picked up on "Lets Have a Love in" and packed out floors back in the day. When Berry Gordy purchased Golden World Records/Ric-Tic from Wingate, the Flaming Ember chose not to sign with Motown as Gordys ruthless reputation was well known around the city. In 1969, they signed with Hot Wax Records, the label founded by Brian Holland, Lamont Dozier, and Edward Holland, Said Lamont Dozier years later, "Their drummer Jerry Plunk was a fantastic, emotional singer." They dropped the "s" from the band's name and scored a pop and rhythm and blues hit with "Mind, Body and Soul" in 1969, reaching number 26 on the US Billboard pop singles chart. They charted again with their signature song "Westbound #9" (number 24 US pop, number 15 US Billboard R&B chart), and "I'm Not My Brother's Keeper" (number 34 pop, number 12 R&B). The three songs were all released between late 1969 and late 1970. "westbound" was.still is a massive tune in all soul clubs in the UK. Follow-up efforts such as 1971's "Stop the World and Let Me Off" were not as successful. After changing their name to "Mind, Body and Soul," they spent the rest of the 1970s playing the Detroit bar circuit. Only one of the original band remains alive. But that one record is still an anthem to many soul fans. This CD contains their only 2 studio albums and non album tracks from those sessions. They recorded a total of 25 x 45,s.7 were only a handful of artists to sell to whit.Black audiences back in the day, some achievement. I must get a new scanner as its not great with CD,s.
