Kent 137 - The Kelly Brothers - Sanctified Southern Soul (1996) - Rare Soul + Booklet (FLAC)

The Kelly Brothers, hailed from Shelby ,mississippi and comprised of brothers Robert,Curtis, & Andrew & were joined later by Offe Reece & Charles " T.C" Lee. The group who recorded soul records in Nashville for the Sims and Excello labels in the 1060,s. They sounded different from most soul groups of the 1960s. Unlike the well known Motown groups of the era that evoked a little of the flavor of gospel ,notably the silky smooth Temptations, the jazzy Four Tops, and the sweet sounding Miracles.  The Kelly Brothers captured the full rich soul testifying spiritual sound of the fundamentalist black church. They were a vocal group version of such southern soul men as Otis Redding, Roscoe Shelton, O.V. Wright, and James Carr, and sang in what has commonly been called a deep soul style. It is a style that makes few concessions to mainstream pop conventions and emphasizes the robust and often raw vocals of the African American gospel tradition. They were typically born and raised in the South, but surprisingly throughout their career they lived in the North. They were also first and foremost a gospel act, and it is the black church background that provides the entire groundwork for their fabulous body of secular soul recordings, some found their way exposed to the dance floors of the uk northern soul scene and became collectors items. They were formed in Chicago in 1948, but again all the info you need is in the booklet.
