Its been a while since i listened to a soul/gospel album that completely knocked me sideways..But WOW! this really is special,a fantastic one off performed by west coast soul singers whose names are familiar with the soul fraternity(TAKE A LOOK AT THE CREDITS ABOVE BACK COVER) performing songs of bob dylan....Dismiss this at your peril as its a who,s who of the soul world going back to their roots and doing dylan songs only the way the african american soul community could do..Incredible!. To my shame i came across this years ago but saw dylans name mentioned and dismissed it & never listened to it...I like some of his songs but sorry he leaves me cold as a performer..The Brothers and Sisters weren't a band per se, but a one off project helmed by producer and music biz legend Lou Adler. The dubious idea was Gather L.A.'s finest background singers into a makeshift Baptist style gospel soul choir to cover classic Dylan songs. The result was a largely ignored but delicious 1969 LP, now reissued on CD. My 3 Fave tracks are in the tasters. It's born again Dylan before even Dylan knew it was coming!..A MUST FOR ALL SOUL FANS..ITS THAT GOOD!

Interesting! I have an album of gospel/soul versions of Dylan's music, performed by various gospel artists, entitles, "Gotta Serve Somebody" (features Shirley Caesar, amongst many others), which is very good. Can't wait to cpmart the two. Many thanks for another excellent preview, AMM.
I love Dylan and any variants many thanks guys for this one!
Thanks AMM. Huge Dylan fan here and this is one of the best covers album ever.
Great review. I remember my older sibling getting this one when it came out.
Awesome... Dylan wrote some timeless songs, and they can be musically interpreted in so many ways.

I have to add one more comment...
The Mighty Quinn - possibly the BEST cover of this song I have ever heard (and that includes both versions by Manfred Mann).
Pluto Shervington even did a cool cover of this song, check it out if you're into Pluto's style...
