Various Artists - New Orleans Funk Experience (2010) Nascente - Rare Soul/Funk (FLAC)

New Orleans Funk Experience collects together 24 rare and raw Funk and Soul gems from artists associated with The Big Easy. Featuring rare tracks from Lee Dorsey, Betty Harris and Eddie Bo on labels such as Ace, Amy, SSS, Seven B, Deesu, Instant and Tou-Sea. Many of these tracks have never before been available on CD before 2010. Compilers Andy Smith and Dean Rudland might prefer killer breaks to fully functioning songs, but there are enough of both here to maintain interest, with some  Northern Soul dancers among the chicken scratch guitar. Larry Darnell's excellent "Son of a Slave" is a stand out moment. There's no resisting the clattering rhythms and unfettered emotions of songs such as Betty Harris' evergreen `Mean Man'. In the words of Gus "The Groove" Lewis: "Lay back, relax, and let the groove move you" ..A truly Fantastic album with all genres of soul catered for!

Eddie Bo - a friend that I miss every damn day. Fence of Love is a very hard to find single of his. Also, Roger & the Gypsies is, due to contractual reasons, actually Eddie Bo.
There are several other very hard to find cuts on this comp. As someone who has spent the majority of his life listening to and promoting the sounds of New Orleans this is a comp to grab - hell, I don't even have it.
Many thanks for an exceptional preview, AMM!
