The Three Degrees formed in 1963 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The group has always been
a trio, although there have been a number of personnel changes and a
total of fifteen women have represented the group so far. The original
members were Fayette Pinkney, Shirley Porter and Linda Turner. The most
successful line-up was Fayette with Sheila Ferguson and Valerie Holiday,
these three being responsible for all the huge hits on Philly International. They are celebrating 60 years in the music business this year! They signed with New York based Roulette Records in 1970 after having been on the Philly label Swan records for 3 years, then a few releases on Neptune and Metromedia.Thee line-up
was Fayette, Valerie Holiday and Sheila Ferguson and this line-up was to
remain intact for their glory years with Roulette and Philadelphia
International. they started to take off at Roulette with hits as a remake of the Chantels 1958 hit, “Maybe” and
continued through “I Do Take You”, “You’re The One”, “There’s So Much
Love All Around Me” (all produced by Ritchie Barrett) and closed out with “Trade
Winds” for Roulette. It was during this two year span that they made a
cameo appearance in the movie, “The French Connection”, singing
“Everybody Gets To Go To The Moon”, portraying themselves in a cabaret
scene. This album catches this period in their career. But ive included all the rest of their material at Roulette as a Bonus LISTED BELOW BACK COVER. As soon as i find my CD covering all their records on their previous label Swan i,ll post it up.
