Melvin Davis - Double Or Nothing (2015) Rock Mill + Mini Booklet - Rare Soul/Funk/Blues (FLAC)

A different side of Detroit Soul legend Melvin Davis. The "Detroit Soul Ambassador" strikes with his first original album since the 70's into a new path. The writer, composer and producer reactivates at the age of 70 his legendary Rockmill Label and endowes us with a musical gift in "Double or Nothing".
Intelligent lyrics which could come out from a romance-novel, sophisticated arrangements, the most gifted musicians from Motor City look at the credits! and Mr. Davis' wonderful voice. The voice we have loved for more than 6 decades. As soon as you hear the title track you know he has arrived in the 21nd century of soul music. This icon knows how to touch people's souls, thats why we love him. A musical love letter sent out of Detroit. Definitively Double Mr. Davis!. Its incredible how the man still had the drive and energy to record such a great album at his age, and this was back in 2015! Sadly only 2 tasters on youtube. Loved this album, a bit of everything!...On a sadder note is THIS!

Looking forward to hearing this. Leroy Emanuel played guitar on Bettye LaVette's My Man when he was 16 years old. McKinley Jackson is a famed player and band leader from Detroit, Pat Lewis is a singer that Bettye LaVette claims is the best at putting together BGV parts of anyone that she knows. Drew Schultz is a "younger" drummer helping to keep the Detroit sound going, as is Chuck Bartels who was Bettye LaVette's touring bassist until he left the road for a few years when his son was born. And Keith Kaminski has been blowing sax with legacy artists and others for over 20 years.
