The Sunday Documentary - Dusty Springfield At The BBC Vol 1 (2013)

Growing up in England in the 1960.s most hot blooded young men were in love with Dusty Springfield. This one lad who was discovering the joys of black american music was no exception. The thing about Dusty was she could belt out a tune & them some!... and unknown to me back then she was a massive soul fan, though her performances gave that away slightly...lol!... and her record collection was impressive to say the least, details of which would come out after her sad demise. Here is a selection of Dusty Springfield's performances at the BBC from 1961 to 1995. Dusty was one of Britain's great pop divas, guaranteed to give us a big melody in songs soaring with drama and yearning. The clips show Dusty's versatility as an artist and performer and include songs from her folk beginnings with The Springfields; the melodrama of You Don't Have to Say You Love Me"; Dusty's homage to Motown with "Heatwave " and "Nowhere to Run".  She was single handedly responsible for organising the Motown Review Tour in the UK & the Motown Show on the top 60,s TV series " Ready, Steady Go!" and liased with her best friend stateside Martha Reeves. Using Martha as a go between Berry Gordy tried his best to get Dusty to leave Philips and join his label to no effect. The Jacques Brel song "If You Go Away"  the Bacharach and David tune "The Look of Love" and Dusty's collaboration with  The Pet Shop Boys in the late 1980s. There are also some great duets from Dusty's career with Tom Jones and Mel Torme. The last song on this video is "Some Of Your Loving" Dusty Oozes with her soulful performance on this and if it doesnt blow you away then you must be deaf!...This lady was a giant back in the day and i,m so pleased i have everything she laid to Vinyl & CD as she was one of the greatest singers to come out of the UK with THAT soulful voice which knocked you dead! For a white girl from london its incredible the amount of northern dancers that got spun over the years 30+ to my recollection, not even her black contemporaries across the pond could match that....LEGEND!
