James “Diamond Jim” Riley was a producer, songwriter, and label owner who founded the Detroit soul labels Riley's Recording Co., Diamond Jim, and Big D. His records have attracted collectors and northern fans alike for the many stunning dancers he had a hand in. The catalog numbers for the label were intermingled with all three labels, they also appear as "Diamond Jim Recording" or "Diamond Jim Records." Do not confuse with the Port Arthur, Texas, label Diamond Jim Records.....Sadly on a Saturday night in May 1971, a Donald Bryson emptied his gun into Mr. Riley at Watt’s Club Mozambique an important 60’s Jazz venue in Detroit. The city at that time was a very violent place. You can read more about him over here. Quite a character to say the least, even Muhammad Ali is featured on a dancer!................The response to our compilations has been very good and most of you cant seem to get enough of them, some of you have mailed me and asked who are The UK Soul Brothers ? Well its been printed on the back covers for long enough, but to clarify we are Bill, Oldsoulrebel, ELtel, & Myself. But i,m pleased to announce that soulfood has also joined in the contributions to our little band and has made an impact with his reviews in the short time since he joined the blog. We are all English guys who have been around the soul scene here a long, long time collecting in one form or another, and we give up our time and money to use the extent of our knowledge to bring you the best music possible in the finest quality available in our collaborations. So there you have it in a nutshell. Dont worry i have,nt stopped the rare northern soul series as some of you have feared, that will continue, but time is our enemy as there is such an abundance of music out there to review and not enough time, but we,ll do our best!
