Ms Wilson's musical roots stretch back to late 1960s Los Angeles where she was discovered by legendary producer and arranger H.B. Barnum. Barnum signed her to his Mothers record label, where she recorded three sought after albums. In the early 1970s she signed to the Westbound label in Detroit, where she recorded the fantastic album "Specialty Of The House" and a bunch of unreleased recordings, which are all gathered on this superb ( and i mean Superb) release which is long deleted. Few good dancers that received attention included on the you-know-where-scene but its such a beautifully well delivered album that showcases this lady,s immense talents across the board. This is a side of her i,m more interested in than her jazz style. Her album with the Quantic Orchestra will be reviewed soon also by request. To clarify Westbound Records UK is a subsiduary of Ace records in London as is kent. Armen Boladian was already a long-time fixture on the Detroit music scene when he launched Westbound. Since the late 1980s Ace has been Westbound’s/Eastbound,s European licensee and have diligently mined their vaults. All the big name artists have their albums available, in the case of both Funkadelic and the Ohio Players, in expanded editions. while they have also issued a variety of obscure recordings from the edges of the catalogue which appeal to the specialist fan.
