The Capitols - Complete Collection (2023) - Rare Soul (Flac+Mp3 419MB)

The Capitols were Samuel George lead vocals/drums,Don Storball vocals/guitar, & Richard Mitchell vocals/keyboards....All Detroit born & based, they formed in 1962 as The Three Caps. They were discovered by Ollie McLaughlin DJ at radio station WHRV in Detroit & owner of Karen Records whilst gigging In their early days backing singer Barbara Lewis as well as performing themselves. Barbara was contracted to Ollie as producer/manager to her at Karen, he also participated in the careers of Del Shannon, Deon Jackson in the same role. After signing with Karen the trio went on to record and release their first single in 1963, "Dog and Cat/The Kick"via Ollie. The record displayed the upbeat energy of their later work, however it bombed and the guys disbanded. After a three year period, Ollie McLaughlin took a call informing him that the Capitols had re-formed. The group had a new song entitled ‘Cool Jerk’ which followed the latest dance music trends at the time. Studio time was set aside for the record, which was released on the Karen Label. The record was recorded at Golden World Studios in Detroit that year as was the follow up album, and featured the Motown house band The Funk Brothers. ‘Cool Jerk’ b/w ‘Hello Stranger’ became a top ten hit, reaching number 2 of the R&B charts and a world wide hit. They went on to record mainly dance themed records for a few years & they released two albums in 1966, "Dance the Cool Jerk"...In the UK as The Three Caps and "We Got a Thing,"...never issued in the UK .....both featuring mostly covers of popular Motown and soul songs.. They never released any more albums. In late 1969, the group broke up for the final time. Storball went on to a career in the Highland Park, Michigan Police Department, and still lives in Detroit. Samuel George died March 17, 1982 after he was fatally stabbed in a domestic dispute, & Richard McDougall died on February 19, 1984 of unknown causes. Though the group had a short career and limited success, their hit "Cool Jerk" has stood the test of time, and that and many of the tracks featured here were huge hits on the UK Northern Scene. So this collection is the complete recordings of The Capitols. Both classic LPs, the 45s that followed and Four unissued tracks. The first 20 tracks are in Flac & remainder in mp3....LEGENDS to fans & dancers alike over many decades, they seem like they were tailor made for the northern scene !
