Allen Orange - Soul Ambassadors - Soul World - Rare Soul (MP3 84MB)

As i recently told someone my biggest regret is that i didnt keep Flac copys of albums i sold yet i scanned everything ?...Here`s an interesting Back Up i just stumbled upon after getting a request for a few albums i went on the hunt & bingo!. This is one of those Bootlegs from the far east, & as much as ive never felt comfortable getting these they do fill a void that the majors seem to ignore. This man has been at the forefront of New Orleans Soul since the early 1960,s. One of the hottest DJ`s in New Orleans back in 1960 was a guy named Larry McKinley. Many's the R&B classic he "broke" on his show and sent on it's way to the top of the national charts (not the least of which was Ray Charles " What'd I Say"). It was a stroke of brilliance when vinyl distributor Joe Banashak asked him to be a partner in his then new label, MINIT records. In January of 1960, McKinley arranged to hold an open audition at WYLD studios as a way of scouting talent for the new company. That one night resulted in the signing of Benny Spellman, Aaron Neville, Allen Orange and Jessie Hill (Irma Thomas and Joe Tex also tried out but were still under contract to other labels). Allen Orange brought along a piano player to accompany him, one Allen Toussaint. He ended up playing behind most of the other artists who had shown up, and so impressed were McKinley and Banashak that they asked him to be the new label's producer and arranger. The legend that is now Allen Toussaint got his start at that audition. He auditioned himself as one half of a duo named Allen & Allen. but this would mark the first time that Allen Toussaint's (or Allen Orange's, for that matter) voice is heard on record. By the autumn of 1960, the duet act had apparently run its course, and Allen Orange was now a solo performer. His songwriting partnership with Toussaint was also a thing of the past, evidently, as Orange wrote the A side of his next single (Forever), while 'N. Neville' would compose the B side: N. Neville was Toussaint's mother, and he began using that as his 'nom de plume' around then for whatever reason ?. Once again, you can hear the origins of 'Mother-In-Law' in there.  Allen Orange wouldn't record again until 1964 when  MINIT 630 - When You're Lonely / True Love Never Dies. He,s worked with all the big names in new Orleans on many 45,s and other projects. He would go on to form his own label that has gone down in soul folklore `The House of Orange` releasing 16 45,s from 1971 through to 1985. His date of birth is unclear but he sadly passed in 2006 at his home in North Carolina. One of the stalwarts of new orleans music that helped to put it on the map world wide. On the dueted tracks its with Allen Toussaint.
