Lee Moses - Time And Place (2007 + Booklet) Castle Music + Bonus Tracks - Rare Raw Deep Soul (FLAC 329MB)

UPGRADE from old blog...Vincent Lee Moses was born in Atlanta, Georgia in 1941 & passed in 1998. In the late 1950s he formed his first band, the Showstoppers. They became a popular live act in the Atlanta area, and were at one time the house band at the Royal Peacock club a popular black venue in the city. Lee moved to New York City in the mid 1960s, where he worked as a session musician and recorded with Johnny Brantley, who co-wrote and produced his first single, "My Adorable One", in 1965. In 1966, he co-produced, with Johnny Brantley, several tracks by a virtually unknown Jimi Hendrix at Abtone Recording Studios in New York. The tracks were later released as a 4-LP box set titled "The Genius of Jimi Hendrix". It was released in 1975 on vinyl only and has become a collectors item. If anyone wants this i have the album, very very rare now! In 1967, he recorded three singles all commercially unsuccessful for the Musicor label, including "Bad Girl," and an instrumental version of The Four Tops' "Reach Out, I'll Be There". He also recorded a version of "Dark End of the Street", issued by Gates Records in 1969. Lee`s guitar style has been described as "funky" and likened to that of Jimi Hendrix, a contemporary of his on the club scene of the mid-1960s. He has also been praised for his "rough raw and powerful deep soul singing style". In 1970, Moses released a single, "Time and Place", on the Maple label, a subsidiary of All Platinum Records. This was followed by a nine track LP of the same name (which i have) also produced by Brantley, that included his versions of several classic songs of the period including "Hey Joe" and "California Dreaming". The album featured several members of The Ohio Players, as well as Moses' own band, the Diciples. Although the album has since been described as "a revered and highly sought after lost treasure for deep soul fans and collectors," it was a commercial failure at the time (where have we heard that before). Lee also worked with fellow Atlanta native The Mighty Hannibal on his 1973 album, "Truth". He returned to Atlanta in the early 1970s, and continued to perform locally, but did not record again. He sadly died there from lung cancer. In 2007, Castle Music issued THIS CD anthology of all Moses' recordings REVIEWED TODAY + BONUS (tracks not on CD but the LP) In 2020, Simon David released a  documentary called `Time and Place` I think this guy has to be one of the raw-est soul singers who ever lived, imagine a mix of otis redding & joe cocker..his gospel roots come through loud and clear, this is Raw deep Soul from the heart!...Brilliant!!!...Bonus tracks listed under back cover Courtesy Of Me.

Thanks for the up grade of the very gritty/raw soul singers Some of the tracks on "The Genius of Jimi Hendrix"(Worth a listen) are Lee and Lonnie Youngblood seems Hendrix was doing a bit of backing on some tracks I think in between contact problems at a guess Still this is a great album sung from the soul Great Review AMM
