Roosevelt Grier - Soul City (1964) Recording Industries Corp - LP MONO - Rare Soul (FLAC 185MB)+++ PLUS-PLUS-+++Roosevelt Grier - Welcome To The Club (2010) Cat King Cole - Rare Soul CD (FLAC 448MB)

UPGRADE FOR LP from the old blog...One thing i will say about the old Mono albums, they were made to last and as tough as old boots. One of the most underated artists in soul music and sadly ignored....Roosevelt "Rosey" Grier was born in 1932 in Cuthbert, Georgia & still going strong at 91 years .. To say he led a colourful life is a vast understatement. He was  a footballer/Actor/Bodyguard/Singer/Church minister/politician. As a singer,Grier first released singles on the A label in 1960,and over the following twenty-five years he continued to record on various labels including Liberty,Ric,MGM,A&M, Tac-Ful (with the New Yorkers) & Capitol/Amy (with the fearsome four) plus others...His recording of a tribute to Robert Kennedy,"People Make The World"(written by Bobby Womack) was his only chart single, peaking at #128 in 1968. After Grier's professional sports career he worked as a bodyguard for Robert Kennedy during the 1968 presidential campaign and was guarding the senator's wife,Ethel Kennedy. During the Robert F. Kennedy assassination, although unable to prevent that killing, Grier took control of the gun and subdued the shooter, Sirhan Sirhan. Grier's other activities have been varied. He hosted his own Los Angeles television show and made approximately 70 guest appearances on various shows during the 1960s and 1970s. Grier is known for his serious pursuit of hobbies not traditionally associated with men such as macrame and needlepoint See CD & Covers. He has authored several books, including Rosey Grier's Needlepoint for Men in 1973. Grier became an ordained Christian minister in 1983 and travels as an inspirational speaker. He founded American Neighborhood Enterprises, a nonprofit organization that serves inner city youth. He sadly only recorded 2 studio Albums, This One GEM! & A Gospel one in 1984. He is very well Known To most Soul Fans/Collectors Via The Northern Scene For His handful of Cracking Songs both Available on this Album & ON THE NEXT. In 2010 i bought a CD that looked "dodgy" and since have found out it is a boot label, but there are some very rare tracks on their...Interesting to note that a different version of "spanish harlem" on the CD as opposed to this original & also his classic "In My Tenement" is credited as "In THE Tenement" on the boot CD,same song, same lyrics etc..He did record a total of 31 x 45,s all in. So this write up covers 2 Fantastic albums to enjoy!...NOTE: ONLY 5 TRACKS ON LP ARE ON CD...Essential Soul!....DOUBLE ROSEY!!!!

Very nice. Long considered a music curio given his more famous career as a fierce football player (American football, that is) (and witness to the assassination of RFK), it is more than just a novelty. Thanks for this.
