The 8th Day - The 8th Day Plus + I Gotta Get Home + Remastered with Bonus Tracks (2009 + Booklet) Edsel 2 X CD - Rare Soul (FLAC 718MB)

A great Two for One CD album Featuring the lead vocals of Northern Soul legend Melvin Davis the driving force behind the group, aided by fellow detroit artists Lyman Woodard & Clyde Wilson (STEVE MANCHA) this 2 x CD set contains every 8th Day associated track that was released on Invictus or Hot Wax, whether credited to them or not, and is the most complete documentation of their career to date. The booklet is fully annotated by by HDH. This contains their first 2 albums plus bonus tracks not on the LP,s back in the day the 3rd album is extremely rare and i have a back up somewhere after making a good price on the original. Only the three albums recorded and 14 x 45,s before they broke up. Again the booklet has invaluable info in it. This is a 100% pure soul album made by top class Detroit Legends for soul men (Like us). Listen to the vocal duets between Melvin Davis & Steve Mancha, does it really get any better than this ? and the genius (years ahead of his time) Lyman Woodard...BLISS!

Would love this for the bonus tracks. I think that She's Not Just Another Woman is a perfect example of what a soul record is. Clyde!!!!

AMM, just wondering. Were you listening to soul music before the Northern Soul movement started? If yes, where did you hear it? Was it on UK radio? Or did you hear it played by DJs at dances? Also, was soul music getting into the UK record stores in the 60s?
Thanks for Melvin Davis and the 8th Day. I know you love him.

Hi billy,
yes it was years before the term "Northern Soul" was even termed by the late Dave Godin "Blues & Soul magazine" journalist and owner of SOUL CITY records in London in the 60,s but the scene didnt really take off till 1973 when Wigan opened its doors after the Torch In Stoke closed.......When i was a kid there were pirate radio staions in europe in the North Sea ..ships... "radio caroline" and another one i cant remember ? also there was AFN American Forces Network, all 3 played R&B and jazz that got me hooked when i was 11 years old...it lit the fuse and that had me hooked...it was AFN with Black servicemen as DJ,s that started playing the serious new "Soul" sound that drove me into a spin!..i used to sneak my old little transistor radio into bed every night, Even at school all i could think about was what was going to get played tonight and i made notes on artists/songs etcc and the labels had me spellbound when i started to seriously collect...?..i loved AFN a station for American servicemen in Europe that broadcast from Germany. Soul didnt really get into the stores till the mid 1960,s with imports trickling thru & i started to collect the UK ORIOLE label first eg Stevies "fingertips" first off when i was really young. By the time the mid 60,s arrived clubs started springing up with all nighters in sheffied ,liverpool, manchester & London so i loved to dance and went all over the place...so i guess thats where i really started, culminating in me saving every penny to get to the states on a major shopping spree to bring back in bulk as much as i could get my greedy hands on..i did that on 3 occasions selling dupes to friends..I was very lucky to experience it all and its made me who i am now..i also freelanced for a few record labels which taught me a lot obout how the music biz works, like anything else politics and corruption ran thru that like a virus so i got out..i could have made a career in it as my wife says but you know what..its never been about making loads of money out of the 2nd love of my life, its the passion and love for the music of black america that still burns bright to this day...My collection is so huge that i started to think " hang on here a minute m8, why not share it" with like minded souls who missed out or /& genuinely love the music be it jazz, soul,or blues & Fusion so thats why i started the old blog that was attacked and taken down and now this one..i was never going to give in to the haters who still are around and leeches my pet hate whom i abhor who steal from decent sites and charge money for music they dont own or share also..i hope that answers your question

Thanks for the review and your awesome story. I live in San Antonio and had the pleasure to listen to KAPE a black radio station and KUKA a hispanic radio station. Both of the played some bad ass soul music. I remember when " What does it take" came out. Me and my buddies would drive in front of the radio station window and tell the deejay to play it again and he would. Those days are now gone. Thanks for your good memories and thanks for the music.
