Various Artists - Testify Presents The Nola LA Connection - 60s Crescent City Soul Men Go West (And Back Again) (2024) Testify PROMOTION COPY (MP3 168MB)

This really is a fantastic collection with an audio intro into what this compilation is all about. Basically it highlights the artists from New Orleans who migrated west to Los Angeles for work. There are some very rare tracks/dancers on here indeed, and its a Promo not on sale to the general public, a real treat & essential album for collectors!

Thank you Clash and AMM. Larry Grogan used to run Funky Sixteen Corners site - chock full of great music. The site's still there but hasn't been active for quite some time.

June Gardner was the first modern musician from NO that took off from La and he quickly got hired as part of the ghouse band for The Sonny and Cher show (really popular music and comedy show that featured the 2 of them). In short order, and on Gardner's recommendation, they also hired new Orleanian Harold Batiste as the band leader. All at the same time, Mac Rebennack was havng some real issues in NO due to his drug addiction, and he felt the need to head out West, and while he never got directly hired by the TV show, Batiste did get him a lot of work both as a musician and songwriter.
