Ray Sharpe - Linda Lu (1995) Bear Family + Bonus Track - R&B/Blues/R&R - (FLAC)

I first became of Ray Sharpe way back in the 1960,s...66 to be precise when i hear "help me" that he recorded with King Curtis, a record that took the soul/r&b clubs by storm ! and still played out today at most venues and all the other versions also. Ray was born in  Fort Worth Texas a very talented R&B singer, guitarist, and songwriter. He formed first band, the Blues Wailers, 1956 & recorded his first single, "That's the Way I Feel," for Dot Recordsin 1958. He recorded lone hit, "Linda Lu," on Jamie Recordsin 1959 and was branded a "One Hit Wonder". He also appeared on Dick Clark's American Bandstand  in 1959 then the top show on TV in the USA to showcase his talents. He released singles for Jamie and Trey Records,Gregmark,A&M,Flying High,Garex,Award,Monument, and United Artists. He recorded with King Curtis and then unknown Jimi Hendrix at Atco where he curt the gem "Save Me". This great compilation concentrates mainly his early work,to me a breath of fresh air. And his Bonus included!

Interesting guy. The book "We Wanna Boogie: The Illustrated History of the Rockabilly Movement" has this....

"A buddy of mine named Mike had asked me to write a song about his girlfriend, Linda, who used to come into the club to dance." "I wrote the song to rib her a little bit. You see she had a fascinating rear end, so to speak. When she danced, people watched."

What chance of his later work appearing on this excellent blog? Especially "Help Me Get the Feeling, Parts I & II," also "Another Piece of the Puzzle" released by A&M in 1971. Oh, and two blues albums on the Flying High label which are difficult to find. This is indeed an excellent compilation but there is indeed more. Thankyou. Apparently he's still performing at 84. Now if I ever get to fort worth..........
