Shirley & Co. Jesse Hill – You'll Lose A Good Thing (1978) Crazy Cajun - LP Only Release - Rare R&B/Soul (FLAC)

This is one of the best albums you,ll ever hear! Even though the producer Huey P Meaux made a right mess of the overall production, thanks to our reviewer today he,s cleaned it up...so we could say the best copy anywhere is on this blog! Most of the tracks were huge dancers on the Northern Scene and is a MUST for anyone into classy black music. My copy is not good to say the least,so i was overjoyed when the offer came in from Staxman and his "cleaned up" copy. Shirley Goodman hit the dizzy heights with "shame, shame, shame" on Sylie Robinsons All-Platinum label out of New Jersy with a world wide seller. But this duo both came From New Orleans and teamed up to record this classic gem of an album on Huey Meaux Crazy Cajun label. She found early popularity in the UK and the states with school chum  Leonard Lee as Shirley & Lee "let the Good Times Roll" later a huge dancefloor hit for Bunny Sigler. She had that other magic 45 on wand with Jesse Hill " You Cant fight Love" featured on here. "We Got a Good Thing Going On" &  "Just A Little Ugly"  parts 1&2 only appear on the LP and never got reissued to our knowledge. No tasters for "ugly" sadly that Staxman choose as a taster..In fact its one of my fave albums of all time. Sadly there,s only 3 tasters available from this album as its so rare ,ive let Staxman choose a taster, i was going to post his choices but not to be... in his honour and for his work in cleaning it up and providing us with splendid music!!...Welcome to the blog Staxman!..All their mega rare dancers are on here...what a joy!

AMM

Aw man, the late, great, Jesse Hill! Best known for that fantastic song Ooh Poo Pa Doo (with the phenomenal line, "create a disturbance in your mind"). Jesse's grandson was also a risig star in the NO music scene, Travis "Trumpet Black" Hill, who sadly died way too young while flying to start a tour in Japan (abcessed tooth of all damn things).
To say this is rare, is an extreme understatement. To say I want it is also a very extreme understatement. Thanks again, AMM!

Thankyou folks. This is indeed a rare opportunity. Love the last sentence on the back of the cover "Jesse and Shirley may not be the next sonny and cher or captain and tennille". Thank goodness they weren't!!

you're welcome, fans of the NOLA scene, Overlooked LP I needed to justice to..Jessie (they even spelled his name wrong on the shitty cover,) drunk as always trying to duet with Shirley screeching like a cat in heat. Strange cash-in for Meaux, and a very unlikely soul duo that only for a month and never gigged. The Odd Couple of New Orleans Soul.

This looks good. About 30 years ago I came across a nice stash of Crazy Cajun LPs at a distributor in Chicago who's son was one of Huey's friends, but this one was not in that group. I'd love to hear it. Jerry
