You would think a guy thats recorded nine albums and over 60 x 45,s would be quite well known, sadly not in his birthland and only among the soul faithfull here in the UK. But in italy and throughout Europe he is very well known and established. Growing up in England in the 1960,s as a young "MOD" was a very exciting time for me as i discovered from a younger age the craving i developed to listen to and acquire as much soul music as i could (nearly 60 years later nothing has changed). It was on a visit to the Flamingo Club All-Nighter in London where i first discovered the great Ronnie Jones...Live!...I thought to myself afterwards that this guy is going to be a huge superstar, as i rated him up there at that time with the best, even after i had witnessed Sam & Dave Live who i then thought were untouchable!... Ronald Hugo Jones was born in 1937 in Springfield, Massachusetts. He first came to Europe with the United States Air Force. He started his career in England, where he joined the first incarnation of the Blues Incorporated with Alexis Korner, Jack Bruce, Cyril Davis, Johnny Parker and Ginger Baker. He later formed a band called The Nightimers with John McLaughlin, before moving on to Italy to join the cast of the local production of `Hair`. He then performed with artists such as Claudja Barry and Cooper Terry, and had a hit in the Italian charts in 1976. In the 1970s and the 1980s Jones worked as a musician, DJ and TV host at RAI and Radio 105 Network in Italy. Ronnie was (or should I say is) a fine soulful singer. Quite how he was never a big name I find mystifying ?...........This is a brilliant compilation worth getting for the now rare dance tracks and highlights his talent all with excellent vocal backings from The Breakaways who also sang with him on the UK 1960,s TV Show "Ready Steady Go" Live in 1965, beautiful memories. He now is still Italian based and a talented performer/actor/songwriter, he has written more than 200 songs, including for international artist Zucchero & is adored in Italy. Some things in life you never forget and this guy is one of them!

Thanks for the review AMM
I saw Sam and Dave too and when they left the stage there was nothing left! I think Otis refused to tour with them as they were too hard an act to follow! If you think Ronnie Jones is in that league then I must hear him as sadly I didn't.
Thank you so much for opening up my listening world!
