Sir Rah & Boss were 1960s soul labels from Detroit, Michigan, founded by Shelley Haims. Haims also Founded Sport Records (Review In Pipeline) also a Detroit label. I,ve been collecting these 45,s for years along with other UK enthusiasts & Northern Soul fans. These labels are legendary for the superb quality of records issued, ask any soul/northern fan who is aware of these labels. Shelley was primarily a songwriter and producer who had a long career in the music business, starting out in his native Ohio in the 1950s. A song he wrote with Perry Stevens 'We Go Together' was a hit for The Moonglows in 1956 and for Jan & Dean 4 years later. In his early days he owned the Plaid, Studio, and Pix record labels..What he is best known for is along with business partner Jack Ashford (Ex Funk Brothers) he founded Pied Piper Productions, responsible for many great records to come out of Detroit and find their way to the floors of the UK Northern Scene. Shelley co-wrote several Pied Piper songs under the alias Randy Scott. Prior to Pied Piper he he was the General Manager of Golden World Records and worked on Super Sonic Productions for the album were reviewing today, & Sport shortly. This guy helped to facilitate so many great records yet is unheard of even within soul circles apart from die hards. He died in 2012. On this album there are unissued cuts by The Metro,s another incredibly talented group who should have gone on to stardom yet sadly didnt. Going back to the Sir Rah label its been suspected for years that the song writer Andrew Harris was a bit more than that, though unconfirmed, as apart from his name cropping up on some singes the label is "Harris" spelt backwards ?
