Repost/Upgrade from the old blog..An album thats had over 300 reissues since 1971 when it first saw the light of day...A True Classic!...A fact not known to many fans of this incredible album. The copy that has always been available is NOT the original copy recorded..Berry Gordy took it upon himself to "spruce" up the mix, showing again a poor lack of judgement. There was a source that had been mastered in Detroit, Motown’s then home base, before the original source everybody has which was mastered in Los Angeles. The arrangement is so raw and rough that it seems to have vacuum packed the atmosphere of the studio and the world at the time of recording, and the more you listen to this version of the album, the more you will be amazed. Having had this as my all time favourite album, I couldn't believe how this mix made this album even more incredible than the L.A version..when i first heard it on CD on the Deluxe double CD. The vocals and horns cut right into my heart, a feeling I've never had before... the "Oh Yeah!" in between "God is Love" and "Mercy Mercy Me" is the most powerful vocal in music, and not in the original (L.A) stereo mix. these mixes are IMHO way better than the remixes that were done for commercial release .. the mixes are raw as they should have been .. not overproduced with big reverb on the high congas (as previously released) as good as they were ... the sonic balance is way better. Someone requested this version so here it is. My fave album of all time from the Master Of Soul. I reviewed the 2001 Deluxe 2 x CD edition on the old blog..That as the first time it was ever released till 2017 & 2021 first ever vinyl issues. Moxy tells me this has been made available recently, but i can assure you its NOT this authentic copy.

Absolutely fabulous magic stuff also my favourite album I was also blown away when I heard the Detroit mix. It was a revelation. So good I played it all day on headphones as my wife didn't want to hear it for the 100th time lol. Wonderful review thank you AMM
