Those folks at Fremeaux are thorough and intense. The are still producing records for a few jazz musicians in New Orleans, but there old rnb reissues are probably done. I somehow got referred to one of their guys who was working on this compilation. They felt that the cymbal work on a track was off, and they were concerned it was the source tape they had. Friend of a friend type of situation referred the sound engineer to me, and I was able to then arrange for him to meet both the drummer and Cosmo Matassa, who both told him that the tape they had was pristine and that was the sound they wanted for the cymbal work. Great compilation and even if you have these tracks on other albums, I still recommend grabbing this one, because it quite literally contains the best sounding copies of these songs. Here's to our great leader and friend, AMM! Enjoy everyone!
