Various Artists - Good Times In New Orleans 1958-1962 In The Studio With Mac Rebennack (AKA Dr John)(2017) + Booklet - SOUL JAM (FLAC)

This special release contains 30 studio tracks, including a wide selection of those overlooked 45s and seminal works Mac Rebennack made as a composer, producer, arranger and performer for different local labels, between 1958 and 1962. While some of the tracks were cut under his own name, on others he used pseudonyms such as Little Mac, and Drits & Dravy. Some of the songs were taped at sessions led by the likes of Big Boy Myles, The Ends, Sugar Boy Crawford, Chuck Carbo, and Ronnie Barron, among others. A number of these tracks feature fabulous session players from the Crescent City scene, such as saxophonists Lee Allen & Alvin “Red” Tyler, and drummer Earl Palmer. These early works form the building blocks of Mac Rebennack’s incomparable musical legacy. That wonderful "mash-up" of black music that epitomises New Orleans!  and a smattering of NORTHERN tracks to keep the dance fans happy...incredible N.O. Gem!

Great compilation of Mac's early career, as a sideman to many of the then better known rnb artists in NO. Really does not lend a clue as to what was to shortly become his Nite Tripper persona, but great rnb cuts.
Many thanks for keeping Mac's spirit alive, AMM!
