America’s vast CBS empire is famous as founders of the world's first black music label Okeh, back in 1918, a label which subsequently issued its share of great soul music. The sixties were both the birthplace and the zenith of soul music and although Okeh had the main profile for this style, CBS did in fact issue a great deal of soul music on all its sub-sidiary labels throughout the sixties, also the seventies and eighties. Much of this sixties soul failed commercially at the time of this release, providing a vault of rare records which were prerequisites for DJs on Britains northern soul scene of the seventies. Not only that, but some of the pop discs shared production values with the soul stuff, and consequently a few of these became acceptable at northern soul all-nighters. Sony japan now owns all the rights to CBS/Columbia/Epic and all its subsiduaries. Volume One was posted a while back in march so to complete the series here,s volumes 2 & 3.....I have included the Booklet for Volume 1 for those who reviewed the first volume, sadly my booklets for these 2 destroyed in flood.
