Brighter Side Of Darkness - Love Jones (LP 1973 20th Century)(CD 2015 Fever Dream) - Rare Soul (FLAC)

Just the one post tonight as ive had a new fence installed in back garden and gave it 2 coates of creosote so quite tired & aching everywhere....Brighter Side of Darkness was a short soul group. They were formed in 1971 at Calumet High School in Chicago, Illinois. Their lead singer was 12-year-old Darryl Lamont, the other members were Ralph Eskridge, Randolph Murph, Larry Washington and Albert Vanderlier Roberts. They released the single "Love Jones" in December 1972. It was a hit in the US (Hot 100, #16; Hot Soul Singles, #3) and was certified gold by February 9, 1973. They released just this one superb album, with their second single, "I Owe You Love", was less successful. "Love Jones" was parodied as "Basketball Jones" by Cheech and Chong in 1973. The parody was released as a single in August 1973 and reached n the Hot 100. The group broke up for a period in the 70s due to management disputes, reforming to cut one final single for the Magic Touch label in 1978 before finally disbanding. Clarence Johnson was their manager and producer and the story continues with the emergence of the Imaginations on the same label 20th century. After "Brighter Side"s breakup, Johnson hired Tyrone Stewart as lead singer, re-christening them as The Imaginations who,s only 2 albums will be up tomorrow. Amazing to think this album yielded 2 northern dancers from a lead so young! I have the LP also but CD has Bonus tracks!
