Choker Campbell - Street Scene (19770 Candy Apple - LP Only Release - Rare Funky Big Band (MP3)

This was Choker Campbell,s only released studio album after his motown glory days. Sold it years ago but Stumbled over the back-up CD this morning. In case you dont know anything about this legend or have been living on Mars here,s a brief history..Choker was born Walter Luzar Campbell in 1916 in Shelby, Mississippi & passed 1993 in Detroit. He was a very talented guy, saxophonist, songwriter, producer, band leader, and label owner. His family moved to Saginaw, Michigan when he was only five years old. Campbell led the first of Motown Records’ road bands that accompanied the label’s acts on tour in the 1960,s. Later his position was taken over by Earl Van Dyke. Campbell began leading the house band at Detroit’s Graystone Ballroom, where several Motown live albums were recorded, including Marvin Gaye - When I'm Alone I Cry. In 1969 he founded Tri-City Records in Saginaw, Michigan which included the sub labels Moonville U.S.A., Better World, and Ultra-City. In 1977 he founded Starfire Records and in 1986 he founded the label Campo Artists, which included the sub-labels New Detroit and Angel. New Covers courtesy of hakase Thank you. Repost from the old blog.

Great review , none of the musicians at Motown got the credit they deserved.

I had the LP "Hits of the 60`s", but it went walkabout..any chance of a post??
Meantime this`ll fill the gap (pretty please?)
Cheers!
