Various Artists - The Original Sound Of Detroit - Vol 1 - DT Records - Rare R&B/Soul

I picked this up in a shop in detroit for a couple of dollars and been lying around for years. I,m almost certain its a boot but a lot of great rare tracks on here. A more apt title for this  CD would have been "The Sound of Motown (and related labels) well before Holland Dozier, and Holland's Explosive, trend setting Productions." These are the recordings that Berry Gordy with a few exceptions, didn't showcase on Motown's compilation albums, the forgotten tracks. These include Sue Perrin's "Candy Store Man," the Satintones' "My Beloved," the Equadors' "Someone to Call My Own," and the Four Hollidays (with Jimmy Ruffin) "I'll Walk Right out the Front Door." ...The Two Friends' "Just Too Much to Hope For" originally appeared on HPC and was later recorded by Tammi Terrell. Patrice Holloway, Brenda Holloway's sister, does "For the Love of Mike", well known by most i know" the Primettes (Supremes) wail on "Pretty Baby," with lead Mary Wilson, while the Temptations strut on three tracks: "I Want a Love I Can See, " the throwback "Paradise," and "My Smile Is Just a Frown," later done by Carolyn Crawford. Motown lovers and collectors will love this collection. Lots of obscurities from legendary names like Herman Griffin, Jimmy McFarland, Mickey Wood, Dee Edwards, Eugene Remus, and Don McKenzie. On the more familiar side, Lamont Anthony (aka Lamont Dozier) performs two tracks, "Fortune Teller" and "Just to Be Loved," Marvin Gaye does "The Teen Beat Song," and David Ruffin does "Mr. Bus Driver," originally released on Anna Records. The beautiful cover depicts Detroit's skyline at night. A boot perhaps, but you cant falter the content, many played out on the NSS!!!
