Barbara Jean English (1997) Just Like A Lady - Sequel - Rare Soul (FLAC)

Barbara was a singer/songwriter, Born 1946 in  South Carolina, she recorded only three albums, the first two are featured here from the New Jersey based Alithia Label where she really made her mark! With these two albums of lushly produced soul with a concentration on sensual ballads and a few sought after dancers. She was a member of the popular New Jersey girl group the Clickettes and recorded many pop-soul sides with them in the late ’50s and ’60s. She then joined the Fashions where the great double side " I O U/"When Love Slips Away" were both/still are great Northern Soul Classics as well as her Roulette outing "We Need them" packed the floors.  After a brief hiatus, she re-teamed with the Clickettes in the ’90s to tour the oldies circuit. “I’m Living A Lie” is included in several northern soul compilations. A great cover of Bacharach/David “Don’t Make Me Over” and Francis Lai “Love Story” are the highlights of this forgotten gem. She went solo from 1964. In the late 70's she got involved in the disco scene and later in the hi-NRG scene as a dance music diva. But this album is the real deal from her glorious days at Alithia! She did record another album in 1989 but sadly it,s garbage Hi-NRG and belittled her talent IMHO. She joins the long line of very talented singers who missed stardom, this is a great album i still dig out and play.
