Tommy McCook & The Skatalites - Latin Goes Ska (LP 1964 Treasure Isle) (CD 2000 Culture Press) Rare SKA (MP3)

Bob Marley was,nt the only superstar to come out of Jamaica Showcasing his Reggae talent. My faves were The Skatalites a Fantastic group all those years ago who even gave the first three letters of their name to a brand of reggae SKA. Back in the 1960,s (when i was young and discovering all this glorious music) The SKA records poured in on import from jamaica along with soul 45,s from the USA and yes many of the Soul 45,s also came in via Jamaica. Here in the UK Most soul fans are/were also fans of that Rhythmic beat with many early clubs mixing soul and ska 45,s in their sets. Famous Labels were Doctor Bird & Blue Beat just to name two. I have nearly everything on these labels as well as lots of Ska albums...But these guys were something else. The Band Consisted of Leader Tommy McCook (Sax), Roland Alphonso (Sax), Don Drummond (Trombone), Johnny Moore (Trumpet), Lester Striling (Sax & Trumpet), Lloyd knibbs (Drums), Lloyd Brevitt (Bass), Jerry Haynes (Guitar), Jackie Mitto (Keyboards)...Most of them could play lots of Instruments but the ones next to their names were their main one....plus a few more guys as guests but these guys were the backbone of the band and all went on to attain super stardome in their genre. This was their debut album but here ive posted the Expanded version with much ,much more to enjoy. You can read all about them over at their SITE

I listened to some of the Skatalites not that long ago, but other than one dub album it sadly didn't seem to work for me. I'll check this out anyway as one never knows. Thanks, AMM!

I admit that I have a soft spot for Ska. So why not, to change a bit from soul music.
